THANJAVUR: AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa was shedding crocodile tears over the Sri Lankan crisis, said DMK treasurer and Local Administration Minister M K Stalin here on Saturday. Stalin was campaigning for party candidate S S Palanimanickham in various parts of the district, including Tiruvaiyaru, Vallam, Sengipatti and Thanjavur town.

According to Stalin, Jayalalithaa did nothing to ameliorate the miseries of the Sri Lankan Tamils during her two tenures as the State Chief Minister.

“Did she ever before raise her voice in favour of the Tamils? She is now doing so as the Sri Lankan crisis has become a major poll issue in the State,” he added.

“Even at 85, Karunanidhi is working tirelessly for the betterment of the State. He even refused to heed doctors who advised him rest for a couple of months after the surgery,” Stalin added.

The Minister also hit out at Jayalalithaa for using “abusive language” against Karunanidhi by saying that the Chief Minister was being carried like a “bundle”. Stalin said the statement invited derision from popular Tamil writer Jeyakanthan and former Judge Mohan.

“The Chief Minister runs his office, even when in hospital,” Stalin said.

Harping on the island issue, Stalin alleged that Jayalalithaa once sought the help of Indian Army to nab LTTE chief Prabhakaran. But now, she wants to carve out a separate Eelam. The people should teach a lesson to the AIADMK front for its double standard, he added.
