CHENNAI: Former minister Anitha R Radhakrishnan will be seeking re-election from Tiruchendur Assembly constituency which fell vacant following his resignation while SPJ Kamalakannan, son of SP Jayaraman, DMK MLA, who died recently, will contest from Vandavasi reserved constituency.
Chief Minister M Karunanidhi announced this after interviewing the party aspirants who had sought ticket for contesting the by-elections to both these constituencies.
The aspirants for Tiruchendur constituency included former Union Minister Radhika Selvi.
Radhakrishnan, who was representing Tiruchendur Assembly constituency as AIADMK MLA was expelled from that party on July 29 amidst rumours that he would be joining the DMK.
Later, he resigned his membership in the Assembly and joined the ruling party.
Meanwhile, the CPM has called a meeting of its State committee in Madurai on Wednesday to take a decision on the bypolls in Tiruchendur and Vandavasi assembly constituencies.
According to sources, the party would convey the outcome of the meeting to the CPI to enable both parties to jointly announce their decision. The Left parties are unlikely to field candidates, the sources claimed.
