CHENNAI: On the eve of Teachers’ Day, the Tamil Nadu government in a bid to improve educational standards in the State, announced upgrading of around 1400 two-teacher schools to three-teacher ones.
“As per existing norms, only two teachers were employed in primary and middle level schools that had at least 100 students, which resulted in an uneven teacher-student ratio of even 1:50 in some cases,” said chief minister M Karunanidhi in a release.
“The said measure is being effected, considering the difficulties in the implementation of activity based learning and requests from teachers’ associations. Henceforth, schools with at least 70 students covering more than 1400 schools in the state, will have three teachers instead of the present two.This will help for better focus by teachers on students and a better delivery system,” he said.
