VILLUPURAM: The rebel faction of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) including Lok Saba members Gingee N Ramachandran and L Ganesan will reunite with the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Chennai on February 22.

The leaders, accompanied by other members of the faction and from parties other than DMK-led DPA, will return to the DMK in the presence of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at a meeting on Island Ground in Chennai, said Ramachandran.

Speaking to journalists in Gingee on Thursday, Ramachandran said that before the merger, leaders would campaign in favour of DMK candidate Latha Adhiyaman, who was contesting in the by-election to be held in Thirumangalam Assembly Constituency on January 9.

“We have adopted a resolution at a MDMK (Ganesan and Gingee Ramachandran faction) meeting that was held in Gingee on Thursday to expose ‘double standard politics’ being practised by MDMK leader Vaiko during the campaign. The functionaries had vehemently supported the party reuniting with DMK. More than a lakh volunteers from Villupuram, Cuddalore, Vellore, Thiruvannamalai districts and Puducherry would switch over to DMK on the occasion,” Ramachandran said.

Ramachandran and Ganesan had played a vital role in floating MDMK in October 1994. About a year back, they formed a rebel faction from MDMK as a protest against Vaiko.
