CHENNAI: K Selvaperunthagai, who took over as the president of the Bahujan Samaj Party's State unit nearly oneandhalf years ago, was expelled from the party on Sunday.

Significantly, Selvaperunthagai has been continuing as an MLA of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi in the State Assembly even though he joined the BSP.

Suresh Mane, general secretary and coordinator of BSP's Tamil Nadu unit, in a statement here, said K Armstrong would be new president of the party in Tamil Nadu.

He said Selvaperunthagai has been expelled from the BSP because of his antiparty activities and for hobnobbing with DMK and Congress leaders resulting into his failure to accord an effective leadership to the party against the antipeople and antiDalit policies of the Congress and DMK governments. `

Selvaperunthagai resigned his membership in VCK on November 11, 2008 and joined the BSP as the president of that party's State unit.

Later, when the Election Commission announced byelection date for Thirumangalam constituency there was a charge that the ruling DMK had stalled the bypoll to Mangalore constituency which was represented by him.

Replying to this, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had said that the Assembly Secretariat could not intimate the resignation of Selvaperunthagai to the EC as his resignation was not in proper form and hence, bypoll to his constituency could not be hold.

Following this, Selvaperunthagai had said that he would submit a fresh resignation letter but had not done it so far.
