PUDUCHERRY: The CBI has called the wardens and staff of the  Puducherry Central Prison for enquiry here on Thursday in connection with the murder of Kamal Shah. It must be noted that the prisoner, who was serving life, was found dead in his cell inside the prison under mysterious circumstances in April 2008.

The CBI probe into the mysterious death comes after the commission report by a team led by retired judge Veeranatha Rao  stated that Kamal might have been murdered ‘scientifically’. This was in contrast to the police’s claims that he slit his throat with a spoon and committed suicide.

Following this, the CBI, along with a medical team, exhumed the body of Kamal Shah here in February this year to probe into his mysterious death inside the prison. Kamal, who was sentenced to death, later reduced to life, was convicted in connection with the sensational Parvathi Shah murder case. He was accused of allegedly raping and murdering his sister-in-law, Parvathy Shah.

Believing this was an act engineered by some of the authorities themselves, following information that Kamal Shah had been selling his property outside with the help of prison officials, the CBI team had sought property documents belonging to Kamal Shah from his mother Padmavathy Shah.

At present, the CBI team has called for the enquiry of about 13 wardens scheduled to last four days from July 10 and has also conducted investigation on 40 prisoners inside the Puducherry Central Prison.

They had also got the registers from the prison during a certain year pertaining to prisoner movements like prisoners’ hospital visits, etc.
