TIRUPUR: C Govindasamy MLA has refuted the CPM charges against him and has announced that he will resign his MLA post.

Speaking to reporters soon after his expulsion from the CPM, he said, “I was elected by the people as their representative with the belief on me and I will not quit the MLA post budging to the demand from the party. The planned felicitation function for the DMK government on August 1 is not aimed at garnering any political gain, but a gratitude by me as a people’s representative.”

He also said, “Earlier, I had offered to resign the MLA post, following the torture, restriction and disregard on me by the party leaders during the last two years. I agreed to continue in the post only after the party convinced me. I never aimed for money or power and there was not an iota of truth in the allegations poured on me.”

“Following the influence by some leaders, I was restricted from meeting the party functionaries and members in the constituency. Even for party functions in the Kongu region, I was not invited though I am the lone CPM MLA from this region. Even after the negligence and insult over the years, I never thought about leaving the party, but I accept the expulsion as a gift for my 42 years of dedication to the party,” he rued.

While answering a query about the rumour that he will join the DMK, he said that till now there was no such plan, but time would answer for everything. “After a meeting with party members and functionaries across the district, a final decision will be taken regarding further course of action and it will be made public on July 15,” he said.
