CHENNAI: Ridiculing the ‘sudden concern’ of the AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa for late leaders K Kamaraj and Kakkan, DMK principal secretary Arcot N Veerasamy said on Monday that her antics would not win her the alliance of the Congress.
In a statement here, Veerasamy said that no Congress worker would be won over by the sudden concern of Jayalalithaa towards the party as they would never forget the wild charges made by her against the AICC president Sonia Gandhi. “Jayalalithaa is demanding the installation of the statues of Kamaraj and Kakkan as she has no other issue to raise”, he charged.
Veerasamy said that it was a known fact that Jayalalithaa was trying to forge an alliance with the Congress. But whatever be her antics, neither the Congress nor the people of Tamil Nadu could be cheated. “No one can shake the DMK-Congress alliance hereafter. And Jayalalithaa can’t create ripples in the alliance and gain out of it,” Veerasamy added.
Stating that Jayalalithaa’s support for the freedom fighter Sudalaimuthu’s demand for the installation of the statues of Kamaraj and Kakkan was unsolicited, Veerasamy said that the Congress had not sought her support at all.
“Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has been initiating several measures to spread the glory of late leader Kamaraj,” he said and added that Jayalalithaa had taken up the statue issue only out of the fear that she could not escape the clutches of law in the disproportionate assets case.
