CHENNAI: AIADMK MLAs on Tuesday clashed with Speaker R Avudaiappan as they were denied permission to raise the issue relating to the murder of two schoolchildren in Coimbatore recently.
After a verbal altercation, the AIADMK members staged a walkout and MDMK MLAs also followed suit.
During the Zero Hour, AIADMK members Pollachi Jayaraman and S M Velusamy tried to raise the issue, but the Speaker said they had not given prior notice for it.
As the AIADMK members insisted on raising the issue, Deputy Leader of Opposition O Panneerselvam said though the Speaker had the right to allow or disallow any member to speak, he should at least allow them to raise the issue in the House, as it was their basic right.
But Avudaiappan said members could raise an issue only if they had prior permission. Dissatisfied with the Speaker’s ruling, AIADMK whip K A Sengottaiyan said the Speaker, while stifling the voice of the opposition, allowed only those who praised the government to speak.
