VELLORE: The Jolarpet Police have unearthed one of the largest video piracy production units in the region when a sub-inspector knocked on the doors of a house in Tirupathur taluk for a minor inquiry.

  The police had come to make inquiries about Velu, who resided in the town. However, they were let into the house by Arun (24), one of Velu’s assistants. Once inside, they noticed a stack of labels bearing the names of brand new Tamil films on them. On making a cursory search, the police also found some packed pornographic DVDs apart from three computers and six DVD-burners, used to mass produce pirated versions of latest releases.  Close to 3000 movie discs have been confiscated along with the computers and related hardware. The Jolarpet Police are currently on the look out for Velu.

Marijuana seized from convict : When a convict at the Vellore Central Prison was searched, after he returned from his court proceedings, jail guards found marijuana hidden on his person. Suman was arrested last month on charges of assault and robbery in Tiruvottriyur. On Tuesday he was produced at a Chennai court, where his case came up for trial and then returned to Vellore on Wednesday evening. During the cursory body search conducted by the jailors, 30 grams of marijuana was recovered from him. The Bagayam Police confiscated the contraband and  registered a case.

Three held for hunting in reserve forest: Acting on a tip off, a team of forest department officials on Wednesday apprehended three members of a four-man team who were hunting rabbit and wild boar in the Eraiyur reserve forest. One of them escaped while he other three were detained. They have been identified as Suresh, Arumugam and Arumugham. The man who escaped has been identified as Elumalai. Three bikes and two unlicensed hunting rifles were recovered. Deer’s body found in well: A deer from the Pallalakuppam reserve forest was found dead in a well on Wednesday. The deer, estimated to be between 2-3 years old, was removed by officials from the forest department. It is believed that the deer was chased by stray dogs from the village of Vettuvanathanpatti and in its flight must have mistakenly fallen into the well and died, said forest officials. The deer was buried after an autopsy.
