TIRUCHY: Slain LTTE chief V Prabhakaran’s mother Parvathy Ammal had expressed her desire to spend her last days in Musiri, about 40 km from here, during her three-year-long stay during treatment, sources have revealed.
This probably had much to do with her recovery from paralysis and the calm life she and her husband, Velupillai, led there.
Brought here by her daughter, Vinodhini, on March 18, 2000, she was treated by Dr Kulanthai Velupillai Rajendran at his house on the Musiri-Salem Main Road.
The treatment had been so effective that Parvathy recovered within a year, recalls Dr Rajendran. “She could walk naturally,” he adds.
Since no neighbour was allowed to meet them due to security reasons, the duo went practically unnoticed during their stay.
“The president of the Tamil Desiya Iyakkam Pazha Nedumaran and MDMK general secretary Vaiko visited them twice. One soon after their arrival and the other after she was cured,” says Dr Rajendran.
Despite the low profiles they kept, Velupillai and Parvathy used to visit the Sivan and Murugan temples near Musiri. Moreover, they had even identified a spot for their burial, says sources.
However, the urge to see their son was stronger than their love for this city and they returned to Sri Lanka in May 2003 and stayed with Prabhakaran till May 18, 2009.
Parvathy had returned to Tamil Nadu last May for a surgery to clear a block in the heart, besides fulfilling her wish to spend her remaining days here.
But she was sent back without being allowed to get off because of the lack of government clearance. Sources say Parvathy, was handed over to Prabhakaran’s cousin Ramasamy and her last rites are be expected to perform at 11 am on Tuesday.
Prabhakaran’s sisters, Jagadeeswari and Vinodhini, and brother Manoharan wanted to attend her funeral, but fearing that they may be arrested, they put it off, add sources.
