DMK Party members seek tickets for MK, Stalin

In a bid to gain attention, party leaders and ministers from many constituencies filed applications for their bosses.

CHENNAI: On the first day of receiving applications from aspirants for the Assembly polls, DMK functionaries on Friday thronged the party headquarters, Anna Arivalayam seeking party ticket for Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin.

Hundreds of workers bought the forms. Each application costs Rs 500. General constituency candidates need to pay Rs 5,000. Women candidates and those from reserved constituencies must pay Rs 2,500. The form has 14 questions, including the posts held in public life and whether they have undergone imprisonment for participating in DMK protests. DMK organising secretary P V Kalyanasundaram filed applications in the names of Karunanidhi and Stalin to contest in Virugambakkam. He also sought ticket for himself from there. DMK South Chennai district secretary J Anbazhagan and North Chennai district secretary V S Babu filed applications in the names of MK and Stalin in all 16 constituencies in Chennai while E A P Sivaji submitted forms for them to contest from all 10 constituencies in Tiruvallur. Higher Education Minister K Ponmudy filed applications for both leaders for all eight constituencies in Villupuram. Ex MLAs Saidai K Kittu and Chengai Sivam and councillor Dhanasekaran also filed applications in their names.

Kapilan, a DMK functionary, filed an application in the name of Union minister M K Alagiri's daughter Kayalvizhi to contest from Nagercoil while parliamentary party leader T R Baalu's wife Porkodi filed application seeking a ticket for Mannargudi.
