CHENNAI: Chief Minister M Karunanidhi will be commissioning a world-class paper manufacturing facility of the Tamil Nadu Newsprints and Paper Limited (TNPL), established at a cost of Rs 1,000 crore, at Pugalur in Karur district on January 19.

Already, there are two machines at the Karur plant and the new machine will have a capacity to produce 573 metric tonne of paper per day and 1.55 lakh metric tonne of paper annually.

The CM will commission the new machine through video-conferencing facility from Fort St George. Besides, he will be laying the foundation for three more projects - a factory to manufacture cement from solid waste (600 metric tones per day) to be set up at a cost of Rs 67 crore, modernisation of power plant at Rs 135 crore and a factory to be set up at a cost of Rs 175 crore to produce papier mache.
