CHENNAI: Puthiya Tamilagam president and Ottapidaram MLA Dr K Krishnasamy said the party has asked the AIADMK government to probe the alleged land grabbing cases by DMK-backed companies in Thoothukudi district.
During a press meet in Chennai, he accused two companies of land grabbing, which has hit hundreds of families. “Coastal Energen Ltd and Ind-Barath Energies are the companies that grabbed hundreds of acres of agricultural land at Melamaruthur, Sullanatham, Sullankulam and surrounding areas. Right now, the government is acting tough against individual land grabbers in an appreciable manner. It should also probe the involvement of these companies in land grabbing,” said Krishnasamy.
He said despite filing complaints against these firms, no action had been taken.
The party also urged the government to extend the project of inter-linking of State rivers up to Vaipaar and Malattar, which would be useful to the southern districts of Tamil Nadu.
When Krishnasamy met Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday, he demanded the same.
Meanwhile, the party is planning to conduct bicycle rallies across the State on August 15 to spread awareness of clean environment.
Krishnasamy also insisted that the Central government stop all its economic aid to Sri Lanka without ado.
Nilakottai MLA A Ramasamy was also present.
