KARAIKAL: The dawn-to-dusk bandh call given by the Karaikal Advocates Association urging the Puducherry government to immediately allot land for the proposed combined court complex, evoked partial response on Tuesday.

While most of the shops remained closed, public transport services plied as usual. Normal life remained largely unaffected. Educational institutions and government offices functioned as usual.

Many parties, including AIADMK, DMDK, MDMK, Communists and NGOs like Karaikal Union Territory Struggle Group, had extended their support for the bandh call.

The advocates staged a demo in front of the Collectorate.

The political parties also staged a demo in front of the bus stand.

It may be noted that Karaikal court is now functioning in a century-old building, constructed by the French, that was damaged when the building collapsed partially injuring two court staff in 1997.
