KARAIKAL: Karaikal Chamber of Commerce has urged the Southern Railway to extend all trains originating from and bound for Nagore to Karaikal.

 The Nagore-Karaikal BG line work is nearing completion and train service is expected to commence in a few months. Meanwhile, Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee in her budget speech had announced that Chennai-Nagore Express would be extended to Karaikal.  She also announced survey for three new lines - Karaikal-Peralam, Karaikal-Sirkazhi and Karaikal-Salem via Mayiladuthurai and Perambalur.

 In a release, Pakkirisamy, secretary, Karaikal Chamber of Commerce, thanked the Mamata,  Union Home Minister P Chidambaram,

Union Minister of State for Planning V Narayanaswamy and Pondy Chief Minister V Vaithilingam for the announcement on survey and extension of Nagore Express.

“All the trains originating from Nagore and bound for Nagore should be extended to Karaikal,” he said, and added that Chamber of Commerce would send a representation to the Southern Railway in this regard.
