TIRUCHY: Marriages are made in heaven. But not for N Chelliah, whose wedding will happen only after MDMK general secretary Vaiko becomes an MLA. Yes, Chelliah, who has made a vow of getting married only when Vaiko enters the State Assembly as a member, has no qualms about waiting.

Known in his locality as ‘Vaiko’ Chelliah, the son of Nallusamy and Nallammal of Sengalakudi, Avoor in Pudukkottai district is a daily wage worker in Cethar Vessels in Tiruchy.

He recalls how he got impressed by the orations of Vaiko in his village 17 year ago. “I remember how he spoke for 18 minutes about Veeramamunivar and his association with Avoor for 15 minutes and spoke about the party just for three minutes. This moved me a lot and soon I  became a fan of him,” he recalls.

Fascinated by Vaiko’s love towards Tamil and Tamil nationalism, Chelliah attached himself to the party from 1993 ever since it was launched by Vaiko.

Initially, Chelliah was just a worker, but later became the Viralimalai Union Youth wing organiser of the party.

After five years, he was elevated as Pudukkottai Volunteers Brigade in-charge in 2007.
