CHIDAMBARAM: Directive Principles contained in Article 45 of the Constitution of India have not been fully implemented although many decades have elapsed since independence, said Former Judge of Supreme Court, Justice AR Lakshmanan. He was delivering the commemoration address during the 77th Founder’s day celebrations at Annamalai University on Friday. He stressed on the need of education for everyone without any distinction of caste and creed.
“Dr Ambedkar said that failure to implement the Directive Principles would result in the party in power standing to lose,” he recalled.
“The founders of our constitution have laid stress on education by providing it in Article 45 so that the State should endeavour to provide within a period of ten years from the commencement of the constitution, free and compulsory education for all children until they complete the age of fourteen years,” he said. “Our great nation is yet to achieve literacy and complete success in the field of education. I am confident that the teachers and the students of the college will play a vital role in the building-up of our nation as a prosperous one.” Achalpuram S Chinnathambi was presented with an award by AR Lakshmanan on behalf of Dr Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar Tamizisai trust at the function.
Vice-chancellor of the university Dr M Ramanathan presided over the celebrations and University Registrar M Rathinasabapathy delivered vote of thanks.
Cultural programmes was organized and students from Annamalai University Music College also presented a concert.
