PUDUCHERRY: Chief Minister N Rangasamy informed the State Assembly that his government would recommend a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the Yanam violence. He was winding up a two-day debate on the motion of thanks to the Lieutenant Governor’s address here on Monday.
Stressing that the violent incidents needed to be condemned, Rangasamy said that the Puducherry police were conducting a probe into the matter and a report from the senior superintendent of police had been sought.
He informed the floor that since different political parties had demanded a CBI probe, the government would initiate steps to recommend the same.
On Thane, Rangasamy said that his government, immediately after the cyclone, had taken steps to bring the UT back to normlacy. He added that they had distributed relief to all those affected by the cyclone, including fishermen and farmers. He also said that 3,283 persons would be added to the list of beneficiaries under the old age pension scheme.
Saying that orders would be issued to enhance the MLA’s local area development fund, the CM said that it would be raised from Rs 1 crore to Rs 1.25 crore.
Rangasamy said that he hoped more funds would be allotted to the UT for the ongoing development schemes and the new schemes. In this connection, he said that his government was in discussion with the Central government.
He said taxes were raised as the administration was compelled to enhance its revenue.
He also said that his government had approached the Centre to waive the UT’s loan dues. He added that he hoped the Centre would consider the request.
