Court extends remand of antique dealer Kapoor

The judicial remand of international antiquedealer Subhash Chandra Kapoor, arrested in connection with his alleged role ina temple idol theft racket, was extended by two more days by a court heretoday.
Kapoor, lodged in Chennai Puzhal prison, was brought here and produced beforeJudicial First Class Magistrate Rajkumar on expiry of his three-day judicialremand. The Magistrate extended the remand till Wednesday and adjourned thecase.
He posted to Wednesday the bail application filed by Kapoor, extradited fromGermany last week, and a plea by the prosecution seeking seven-days policecustody of the fugitive.
64-year old Kapoor, suspected to be behind the theft of idols from two templesin Ariyalur in April, 2008 and wanted by Tamil Nadu police, was arrested byGerman police in October last following an Interpol red corner notice.
The Tamil Nadu idol wing police had taken him into custody from Germany andbrought him to Chennai on July 14 and produced him before the court here.
After today's court proceedings, Kapoor was taken back to Chennai, about 250 kmfrom here, for being lodged in the Puzhal Prison.
