Cuddalore’s oldest man dies at 110

Duraisamy Pillai (110), the oldest man in Cuddalore district, a native of Meliruppu village near Panruti, passed away on Saturday, here.

Born on Novemeber 12, 1902, Duraisamy worked as a village Karnam (accountant) from 1929 to 1980. He was in charge of maintaining office accounts, and recorded data pertaining to five villages that were under his control.

He worked as village Karnam under the British rule for 18 years and 33 years in the Independent India.  At the age of 10, Duraisamy married Dhanalakshmi. They have five sons, one daughter, nine grandsons, four granddaughters, ten great grandsons and seven great granddaughters. Dhanalakshmi passed away in 1996.

 Duraisamy celebrated his 110th birthday, on November 12, 2011 in which Kurinjipadi MLA Sorathur Rajendran and Neyveli MLA Sivasubramanian participated.

Duraisamy was felicitated in the function organised by the district social welfare department on December 4, 2011.
