The AIADMK adopted a resolution condemning the territorial government for delay in conducting civic body elections here on Wednesday. The resolution urged the State Election Commission to facilitate the polls immediately.

The resolution was adopted at a meeting of party MLAs, state and ward-level functionaries and was chaired by Pandurangan.

In another resolution, the party urged the State Election Commission to convene a meeting of all political parties and clear the confusion over reservation for women, scheduled castes and other sections in the civic polls.

It may be recalled that the Madras High Court had set a deadline of January 15 for the state commission to conduct polls and declare the results.

AIADMK leaders also slammed the government for failing to mitigate the hardships faced by the common man due to heavy rains.

The resolution alleged that the territorial government did not take adequate measures to check waterlogging, clogging of drains and poor conditions of roads which were dug up for laying pipelines.

It also blamed the government for not initiating enough preventive measures to contain communicable disease caused by the stagnation of water at various places.

Party MLAs A Anbazhagan, Om Sakthi Sekar, P Purushothaman, L Periyasamy, N Baskar and other senior leaders attended the meeting.
