Toddlers along with their parents performed the ‘Vidyarambham’ ceremony on the occasion of Vijayadasami at the Kerala Samajam here on Wednesday.
Clad in new clothes, the tiny tots sat in front of a nilavilakku while Prof (Retd) Ramachandran held their small fingers to write the auspicious words “Hari... Sree Ganapathaye Namaha” in rice. Ramachandran then traced the same words with gold rings on the children’s tongues.
Vidyarambham is performed every year on Vijayadashami with the belief that writing in grains denotes acquisition of knowledge leading to prosperity while writing on the tongue with gold invokes the grace of Saraswati, Goddess of Learning.
Every year parents bring their little ones to the Sri Lakshmi Hayagreeva Perumal temple at Ramakrishna Nagar as Lord Hayagreeva is considered as the God of wisdom and knowledge.
