Two youths fell into 50-feet well while trying to catch pigeons from a nest inside the well.

According to sources,  Vijay (18) of Baledottam Village near Pochampalli, who worked at a private company in Tirupur, and his friend Vinod (20) were wandering about Pokkambatti Village area on Sunday when they came across a pigeon’s nest inside an agricultural well owned by one Palani.

The friends decided to embark on an adventure to trap the pigeons in the well.

But soon, their adventure turned a disaster. The well was dry, had no steps running into the depths and was crumbling in the edges.

The duo tied one end of a rope to a nearby pole and attempted to climb down into the well, which had several thorny shrubs growing out of its wall.

Halfway into the well, Vijay lost his grip and fell into the well while Vinod held on to the rope and kept oscillating about.

The friends raised alarm but there was no one within earshot to respond to their SOS cries and rescue them since the spot was in a remote area.

Vijay, who was seriously injured after the fall, called his relative from his mobile phone. The shocked relatives alerted Fire and Rescue Services personnel who rushed to the spot.

The fire department personnel had to struggle for more than two hours and brought the duo, battered and bruised, out of the the deep well.

Vijay was immediately taken by a 108 ambulance to Pochampalli government hospital where he was diagnosed with a fracture.
