Cops book new case, PRP promoters’ troubles rise

Fresh case was booked against 10 shareholders of PRP Granites on charges of illegal mining on 331 hectares of government land, thereby causing Rs 662 crore loss to government in Melur Taluk of Madurai district.

According to police, the case was booked against P Palanichamy, wife P Selvi, sons Suresh Kumar and Senthil Kumar, daughter Sivaranjani, son-in-law Maharajan, daughter- in-law Sivaranjani and relatives M Murugesan, Theivendran Gandhi and Thavaselvam.

The case was registered under various sections including 447, 379 of IPC, 3 (a), 4 (a) of Explosives Substances Act and 3 (1) (2) Tamil Nadu Prevention of Public property Damaging Act and 4 (1) A and 21 of Mines and Minerals Development and Regulation Act based on a complaint filed by Tahsildar A Vincent Xavier.

Police said PRP Granites had illegally mined the granite blocks at  331.368.61 hectare government poromboke land at Thindiyur, Sivalingam and Thirumogur villages in the district. Police said that they also damaged the land by boring pits and used huge quantity of explosives to illegally mine granite blocks.

The new case is registered above 38 cases already registered against the shareholders of the company.

Ex-Workers Booked

Police registered a case against six employees of PRP Granites for allegedly ransacking a tea shop and threatening its owner against providing any information to officials investigating the alleged illegal mining activities of the company at Keelavalavu near here on Saturday.

According to police, Jeeva, Murugesan, Anumanthan, Jothibasu, Bharani and Chandrasekaran, all employees in PRP till it was sealed by the district administration, were booked on the basis of a complaint lodged by Sevar Kodiyan, the tea shop owner and vice president of an NGO. All the six were booked under various sections of the IPC.
