Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday strongly condemned the execution of Balachandran, son of LTTE chief V Prabhakaran, by the Sri Lankan armed forces and said “this is an inhuman act of extreme cruelty”. She compared the systematic cold-blooded killings in Lanka to those in Nazi Germany under Hitler, where Jews were ruthlessly exterminated simply because they happened to be Jews.
Addressing a presser at the Secretariat, the CM said, “The killing of 12-year-old Balachandran, who was just an innocent child, is a war crime of the gravest nature and it is unforgiveable. The child had not committed any crime and he was executed simply because he was born as the son of Prabhakaran. Therefore, I call upon the government to take steps to hold discussions with the US and other like-minded nations and draft a resolution to be passed in the UN.”
The execution of Balachandran, the evidence supplied in the photos, the evidence we have seen in the video clippings of many other killings of Tamils by the Lankan armed forces reveal the mindset of the Lankan government, she said. She also urged the Centre to ensure that all those guilty of such war crimes in Sri Lanka are made to stand trial before the International Court.
In this connection, she recalled that the TN Legislative Assembly had adopted a resolution reiterating the demand for imposing an embargo on Lanka.
