Wasnik gets a taste of factionalism in TNCC's meeting

Though he contended that there were no divisions in the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC), AICC general secretary and in-charge of Tamil Nadu Mukul Wasnik on Sunday got a taste of factionalism that has riddled the party over decades.

The skyline leading to Satyamurthy Bhavan on GP road was filled with posters of various kinds. And, what was noteworthy was that every faction had made space for its own posters and cut outs of leaders heading each pack.

Whether it was former TNCC president K V Thangabalu or Union Minister Jayanthi Natarajan, none of the leaders missed the opportunity to make their presence felt through the banners, which, without exception, hailed Mukul Wasnik with superlatives.

Inside the building too, Wasnik was given a glimpse of the functioning of the state Congress when some functionaries kept banging at a door leading to a room where a press meet was being held. It took TNCC president B S Gnanadesikan’s personal intervention to calm them down.

Meanwhile, during the meeting that Wasnik had with the functionaries, many wanted him to expedite the process of appointing office bearers to the TNCC. Also, sources said some wanted Wasnik to put an end to nepotism in the ranks of the party and wanted appointment to be made on merits.
