Man electrocuted while fixing flag pole

A 39-year-old man was electrocuted to death when he came in contact with an under-ground power cable on Grand Southern Trunk (GST) Road while installing flag poles for a DMK public meeting, during the early hours of Friday.

Police said Kuppusamy (39), a resident of Ginjee, was among the crew that was hired to deck up the roads and stage which was set for DMK treasurer M K Stalin to address in a public meeting organised for celebrations of DMK patriarch’s birthday.

Kuppusamy had dug a hole adjacent to the  median and attempted to stick the flag pole in when he came in contact with a high-tension cable that ran underground. Kuppusamy suffered an electric shock and died on the spot around 1 am on Friday.  Following this, a case was registered by Tambaram police.

Youth Electrocuted

A 22-year-old youth was electrocuted and died when he tried to remove an iron wire hanging in front of a book store at Katpadi Junction on Friday.The deceased, identified as Ansaar, son of Thasthakir of Chinna Allapuram in Vellore, worked as a cleaner-cum-courier boy in Chandra lorry parcel service. The incident occurred around noon when Ansaar went to deliver a parcel to the book store.  The Viruthampet police said the youth died on the spot. The body was sent to the Government Vellore Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.
