The police on Wednesday identified the body of a man found with injuries on his head and face at Karanipettai on the Tiruvallur-Redhills High Road on Sunday last, as that of a software professional based in the city.

Passersby had alerted the Vengel police in Tiruvallur district about the body on Redhills Road, after which it was taken to the Tiruvallur General Hospital.

The police scanned the ‘man missing’ complaints filed in Chennai, and found an identity match with Manojkumar (37) of Adam Street, Mylapore. He had gone missing from June 8 evening. Manojkumar’s wife Jaya lodged a complaint with Mylapore police, stating that he had left to visit a friend at Redhills, but never returned. With Jaya’s help, the Vengel police identified the body as that of Manojkumar after which it was handed over to the family for the last rites on Wednesday.

Manojkumar was a software professional working as team leader with an IT major in Thoraipakkam. He had received a call from a number before he left home. His call records showed he had calls from the same number on multiple occasions.

The Vengel police said they could not rule out an illicit relationship angle to the murder. Special teams have been formed to nab the accused who could have lured him to a secluded spot and killed him. Sources said that there were definite clues and the case will be cracked within a day or two.
