Senior Congress politician and six-time MP N Dennis died of illness in Nagercoil on Friday.

Dennis (85), who was suffering from pneumonia, was undergoing treatment at a hospital here for the last 10 days.

He was elected six times to the Parliament from Nagercoil constituency as a Congress candidate between 1980 and 1991 and on a Tamil Maanila Congress ticket in 1996 and 1998.

Dennis, a native of Keezhkulam village in Kanyakumari district, was born on January 23, 1929.

Recalling his father’s role during the communal clash in Mandaikadu in 1982, Dr Thambi Vijayakumar said that Dennis visited Mandaikadu alone and interacted with members of both the religious groups and stopped the clash.

Dennis is survived by his second wife Gladish, 76 and three children.
