With the spate of stray incidents of violence continuing, the private and government buses kept away from roads from 6 pm to 6 am, causing difficulties for passengers from rural areas. The passengers travelling on Villupruam-Puducherry and Villupuram-Cuddalore routes were worst affected. Bus services to Chennai via ECR too were stopped after sunset.
However, none of the officials came out on record about the decision on timings of the government buses. A source said that the decision was taken to safeguard public property (bus) from unruly protestors’.
Meanwhile, 90 people belonging to the Vanniyar Kudumba Oringinaippu Iyyakkam were arrested following a protest near Swadeshi Mills demanding the release of Pattali Makkal Katchi leader Dr Ramadoss and other party followers.
