The Union government’s ambitious project, Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and System, would take off by September, said Ashish Bhengra, ADGP, State Crime Records Bureau.
The network is being implemented to enhance seamless crime and criminal data sharing and, towards this end, all police stations in the State would be computerised, Bhengra told reporters here on Saturday.
The project aimed at digitising data from all police stations and inter-connecting them via a secured network.
When asked about the status of the project in the State, Bhengra said, “The project is progressing well and we can expect it to become fully functional by September-end.”
He was in the city to review the status of the pilot digitisation drive launched here last December.
Bhengra said that a major problem cited by police across the State was shortage of manpower to feed data into the system on a daily basis, which was a cumbersome job.
To address the problem, a proposal regarding recruitment of two constables for every police station - a total of 3,160 constables - was made, he added.
“We have sent a proposal to the government regarding recruitment of constables exclusively as data entry operators, to ease out the process of feeding data into the system. They will be given training in data entry related activities. If the proposal is approved, recruitment will begin next year,” said Bhengra.
Bhengra said that a training program aimed at enabling constables with aptitude for data entry would begin on Monday.
