R Senthil (35), son of former DMK MLA Ramajayam of RA Puram in South Chennai, was killed along with three others when the car in which they were travelling toppled at Vijaya Gopalapuram near here in the early hours of Saturday. Four more sustained severe injuries in the accident.
Sources said, Senthil along with his family members were returning from a pilgrimage to Tiruchendur and Palani in a car. Senthil’s relative S Ramesh (38), a head constable, was driving the car. On Saturday morning when the car was nearing Vijaya Gopalapuram near Perambalur on Tiruchy-Chennai National Highway, the driver lost control and the car hit a road median and toppled in which Senthil, his relatives Loganathan (45) of Ayanavaram, Renulakshmi (40) wife of Loganathan and Ramesh died on the spot.
Ananthi wife of Ramesh, Kavitha (30) wife of Senthil, Dharun Prakash (11) son of Loganathan and the car driver Srinivasan sustained severe injuries. The injured were sent to Perambalur GH for treatment. Padalur police registered a case.
During initial investigations, it was found that the driver Srinivasan was fatigued after driving the car through Friday night. Ramesh had reportedly asked the driver to rest for a while as he himself came behind the wheel. Since Ramesh too became sleepy, he lost control of the car. Investigations are on.
