A week after 11 counterfeit notes were seized from a pawn broker on Bharathi Street, the CID wing of the Puducherry police on Saturday started investigation into the case.
The counterfeit notes of the denomination `1,000 were given by Rajendra Kumar to Venkata Subbu when he went to pledge gold in the pawn shop owned by the Rajendra Kumar’s father. The fake notes were placed in a bundle of `52,000 that was given to Venkata Subbu.
When Venkata Subbu went to the Indian Bank to remit the amount in his account, the bank officials found that 11 notes were fake. Following this, Venkata Subbu lodged a complaint with the Grand Bazar Police. Rajendra Kumar was arrested and remanded. The case was then transferred to the CID earlier this week. Inspector Selvam of CID said that Rajendra Kumar on interrogation said that he got the notes from the customers. Though the CID searched his house and shop, no other counterfeit notes were found.
