A 72-year-old ex-serviceman’s licensed single-barrel muzzle loaded gun was allegedly stolen from his farmhouse at Bodi Vettu Vattam in Sorakayalnatham village.

Vijayan on Monday lodged a complaint with the Thimmanpettai police stating that his licensed gun was stolen from his farmhouse on May 13. He  said he had been in possession of the gun for the past 13 years and kept renewing its license regularly.

In the morning of May 13 Vijayan had cleaned the gun before he took his wife to hospital in Tirupattur. After returning home, he found the gun missing. On May 27, after checking the house thoroughly, he approached the police fearing that someone might misuse it, Sub-Inspector of Police V Hemavathy said.

“Vijayan was passionate about the gun. He kept the gun in spite of his family dissuading him to hand it over to the police. He told his wife that they could hand it over to the police after his death,” the SI added.

The police registered a case under Sections 457 and 380 of IPC and are investigating further.
