Ending the long search for political identity, actor S Ve Shekher on Tuesday found his shelter in the BJP.  He joined the party in presence of senior leader L Ganesan on Tuesday. Later, he received the membership card from party president Pon Radhakrishnan.

As the news spread about Shekher joining the BJP, many tweeted saying that he would be a liability to TN BJP and that nobody would vote for him in Mylapore constituency.

In the 1990s, Shekher was known as a BJP sympathiser. He joined the AIADMK and was elected to the State Assembly from Mylapore in 2006. In July 2010, he was expelled from the AIADMK. Since then, Shekher was seen hobnobbing with the DMK president M Karunanidhi and his son MK Stalin.  He attended the DMK general council as a special invitee and said he was honoured by the DMK bigwigs.  There were rumours that Shekher would join the DMK but it never happened.

Later, Shekher held parleys with the BSP but did not join.  A little later, he met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi at Delhi and joined the Congress party in 2010, at the Satyamurthy Bhavan.  Again, he was expelled from that party within an year for anti-party activities.

After the AIADMK returned to power, Shekher petitioned party general secretary J Jayalalithaa to rejoin the party.  But he never got the nod. After Narendra Modi was declared as the BJP PM candidate, Shekher started praising him and met Modi at Ahmedabad.
