

B Ramachandra Adityan, managing editor of Tamil eveninger Malai Murasu, died here on Wednesday at his residence in Adyar. He had been ill for the past few months. He was 79 and is survived by his wife Pankajam Ammal, two sons and a daughter.
Ramachandra Adityan is the elder son of C P Aditanar and elder brother of B Sivanthi Adityan, former chairman of Tamil newspaper Daily Thanthi. The funeral will take place on Thursday at 10 am.
Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, DMK president M Karunanidhi and leaders of various political parties condoled his demise. The Chief Minister, in her message, said Ramachandra Adityan was known for publishing news in simple and lucid style. He was the publisher of monthlies Kanmani and Ponmani. He also edited Kathiravan daily and Devi weekly magazine. Recalling his role in redeeming the Tamil Nadu Mercantile Bank, Jayalalithaa said Ramachandra Adityan’s demise was a great loss to journalism. On behalf of the Chief Minister, senior ministers, including O Panneerselvam, paid homage to the mortal remains of Ramachandra Adityan at his residence.
Union Minister G K Vasan, DMDK founder K Vijayakant, VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan, TNCC president B S Gnanadesikan, PMK president S Ramadoss, former Union minister S Thirunavukkarasar, Dravidar Kazhagam president K Veeramani, MDMK general secretary Vaiko and AISMK leader R Sarathkumar were among those who condoled the demise.
Ramachandra Adityan was born on August 11, 1934 in Singapore when his father was working as an advocate there. Later, he completed his school education in Srivaikuntam in Tirunelveli district and graduated from Presidency College in Chennai. He got hands-on training in journalism from his dad. For the past 50 years, he had been heading Malai Murasu.
