Rally condemning teen rape on January 10

The Union Territory government was urged to take stringent measures to curb sexual violence against women at a meeting, in which several political parties and rights organisations took part, here on Sunday.

The meeting was chaired by PMK leader R K R Anantharaman and DMDK, MDMK, BSP and Federation of People’s Rights ( a rights organisation) participated. A decision to take out a rally, on January 10, to the State Assembly demanding stringent action against perpetrators of sexual assault on a teenager recently and condemning the same was also taken.

Meanwhile, the AIADMK and left parties would submit a memorandum to the Lieutenant Governor Iqbal Singh over recent rape of a minor girl. AIADMK Puducherry Unit secretary said the memorandum would be handed over to an official at the Raj Niwas, as the Lieutenant Governor was away convalescing after a back surgery.
