Giving a new twist to the sibling rivalry, the expelled DMK leader M K Alagiri said he might have ideological differences with his younger brother M K Stalin, but that has got nothing to do with their relationship and it was strong.

The Madurai strongman, who came to Cumbum on Wednesday to attend a domestic function of his loyalist and actor Kama Pandian, told his supporters, “Many were asking me if I will launch a political party.  When I have my party (DMK), why should I start a new one.”

Elaborating his association with the DMK, Alagiri said he had been involving himself in party activities since 1962, when his father Karunanidhi contested against a veteran Congress leader Parisutha Nadar at Thanjavur. “I undertook door-to-door campaign with my sibling Stalin in that election in Thanjavur,” he said.

But, suddenly Alagiri said there may be serious ideological differences between him and Stalin that cannot come in way of their relationship. But this did not stop Alagiri from continuing his criticism of the manner in which the selection of candidates was done for the Lok Sabha election this time.

Taking a dig at the Theni Parliamentary constituency DMK candidate Pon Muthuramalingam, Alagiri said the Congress candidate J M Haroon Rasheed, who had served Theni as an MP for 10 years, was the perfect nominee for this segment. MDMK candidate Azhagu Sundaram is contesting on the credentials of his party leader Vaiko, who has been constantly fighting for the Mullaiperiyar dam issue. Making Pon Muthuramalingam a butt of ridicule, he said the DMK nominee for Theni had none of these credentials, but was an expert in money matters.

Pon Muthuramalingam was instrumental in the exit of Vaiko from the DMK. Then he cheated Vaiko and joined the DMK.
