CHENNAI: Having set milestones that need to be achieved, the Union Budget is devoid of a roadmap on how to attain them, said C Rangarajan, former chairman, Prime Minister’s Economic Council. He was delivering a post-budget analysis to delegates of the Southern Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry here on Monday.
While hailing several of the Finance Minister’s measures, Rangarajan pointed out that the most important thing that this budget lacked was a clear policy roadmap on tackling rising sudsidies and an environment and land acquisition policy.
“Containing the Fiscal Deficit also means that strong action on subsidies is required. The demand on the government for various expenditures is rising and many of them cannot be resisted. But there needs to be a strong focus on subsidies,” the former RBI Governor said.
