NLC Chief Manager Killed in Steam Pipeline Explosion

CUDDALORE: One person was killed and five others were injured when a high-pressure steamline burst in the thermal power station of Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) on Tuesday. The incident took place when NLC chief manager Selvaraj (54), executive engineer Krishnamurthy (58), probationary engineer Abisek (28), contractor Sivalingam (58), and contract workers Jothi (44) and Balraman (53) were carrying out routine maintenance work at Thermal Power Station-I.

The explosion in Unit 7 led to the collapse of a portion of the roof, resulting in the death of Selvaraj. Five others, who were working with Selvaraj, were injured by the high-pressure steam. Their co-workers rescued the injured and took them to the Neyveli government hospital. Two of the injured were taken to a private hospital in Chennai and others were taken to a hospital in Puducherry.

On hearing about the accident, NLC chairman B Surendra Mohan rushed to the NLC hospital and consoled the relatives of the injured workers. He said adequate compensation would be given to the next of kin of the deceased chief manager as per NLC rules. He further said that power generation was normal in other units of the Thermal Power Station-I, except Unit 7, where the accident happened.  More: P5
