PUDUCHERRY:  AICC has deputed former Union Minister of State for PMO, V Narayanasamy to Maharashtra to campaign and woo Tamil voters to vote in favour of the party in the  forthcoming Legislative Assembly elections in the State.

Narayanasamy would leave on Thursday and will remain there till October 13, party sources said.

There is a sizable Tamil population, around 30 lakh voters, of which around 20 lakh in Mumbai are Tamilians. Thane district, Nagpur and Pune also have sizable populations of Tamilians.

Their votes have become very significant in the context of a five cornered contest emerging in the polls with no party expected to get a full majority. With over 4,000 candidates contesting for 288 seats, there is no specific issue to focus in this election, neither are any clear ideological demarcations.

With post-poll alliance expected for the formation of government, the Congress is making efforts to secure as many seats as possible out of the 288 total seats.

The Congress, after a split with its partner the NCP, however wants to take advantage of BJP parting ways with the Siva Sena in Maharashtra.
