PUDUCHERRY: The Left parties have sought the intervention of the President of India Pranab Mukherjee to resolve the students’ protest in the Pondicherry University.
In a joint memorandum submitted to President Mukherjee, CPI state secretary R Viswanathan, CPM secretary R Rajangam and CPI(ML) district secretary
G Pazhani said several genuine demands of the students such as reduction in tuition fees, subsidy in mess bill, uninterrupted Wi-Fi Internet facility and safety in the students’ hostel, particularly for girls, among others have not been addressed.
They stressed that an immediate direction from the President will enable a better academic ambience and smooth functioning of the Pondicherry University.
The leaders also forwarded copies of the memorandum to the Minister for Human Resource Development, Puducherry Lieutenant Governor, Chief Secretary and Education Secretary.
Meanwhile, BJP state general secretary V Saminathan, in a letter to the Union Minster of HRD and Prime Minister said the general public are deeply disappointed with the functioning of the university.
