PUDUCHERRY: Sounding the poll bugle ahead of the Assembly elections in the Union Territory, BJP national president Amit Shah on Tuesday exhorted the party cadre to breach the southern fortress, where it has nominal presence. He told the cadre to strive to bring BJP-led National Democratic Alliance to power in all the states.
Charting out a course for the party for the future, Shah said that NDA was already at the helm in 13 states and efforts should be made to bring the alliance to power from Kanyakumari to Assam. Stating that BJP was all set to lead the country on a united march towards development, Shah said that Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Odisha, West Bengal, Assam and Andhra Pradesh figured prominently in the party’s scheme of things.
While hailing the party’s enrolment drive for effecting 89 per cent penetration in the villages of the Union Territory, the BJP national president had a word of caution for his cadre. He said that the cadre ought not to get complacent over the party’s past successes, but work tirelessly to ensure BJP came to power across the country.
Shah pointed out that efforts were necessary to acquaint every household in the Union Territory with the various welfare schemes and projects envisaged by the Centre ahead of Assembly polls slated for April next. According to him, this would go a long way in ensuring that the NDA remained at the helm in Puducherry.
Meanwhile, speaking on other issues, Shah made a veiled attack on the campaign against the suspension of 25 Congress MPs by stating that it was a one-sided attempt by some media houses and opposition parties to malign the BJP-led NDA at the Centre.
The BJP veteran said that while the Congress was alleging lack of democracy in the Parliament, it was forgetting the fact that during Emergency it had jailed more than one lakh people for no fault of theirs. This reflected their ‘shallowness’, said Shah.
