MADURAI:The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court imposed a cost of Rs 5,000 on an advocate for making false allegation against ADGP S R Jangid in connection with a land purchase case.
P Sundararajan, an advocate, who is also a realtor, filed the petition stating that in the year 2000, Jangid, the then Inspector General of Police (now ADGP) approached him for a vacant site in order to construct houses for police personnel.
Following this, the petitioner purchased and handed over 100 acres of land in Kathakinaru and Thulukkankulam villages.
The land rate was fixed as Rs 5,500 per cent and an agreement was executed on June 6, 2001 between the petitioner and the Madurai Nagara Kavalar Kudiyirrupu Society.
It was stated in the agreement that the amount would be paid to the petitioner at the time of registration of individual plots, by the respective police personnel. The petitioner claimed that the amount was not settled and he was cheated to the tune of Rs 1.07 crore.
Hence, the lawyer made a representation to the Madurai Superintendent of Police to initiate action against the police officials.
As there was no action, the petitioner approached the Court for a direction.
When the case came up for hearing on Wednesday, the petitioner filed another petition stating that the issue was amicably settled and sought to withdraw the main petition seeking action against the police officials.
Meanwhile, the Government advocate submitted that the petitioner had launched a similar complaint in the year 2003 and the same was enquired by the ADGP and was closed as mistake of facts.
Recording it, Justice C T Selvam dismissed the petition. However, he imposed a cost of Rs 5,000 on the petitioner and directed him to pay it to the District Legal Service Authority.
