MADURAI: The ongoing protest by Madurai Law College students in support of their Chennai peers took a different turn on Wednesday as some demanded that classes continue with police cover.

Around 20 students who came out of the campus at noon and informed police deputed outside that they decided to attend classes from Thursday and requested police to support them.

The flash point for the move was allegedly the decision by the majority of Madurai Law College students to burn the effigy of Chief Minister O Paneerselvam.

It happened inside the campus soon after the splinter group walked out and were talking to the police.

“We also stand with the Chennai Law College students. We also condemn the police highhandedness and the decision to move the Chennai Law College to Sriperumbudur. But we do not agree with the means of protest by other students,” he said.
