Naughty Indians Searched for Sunny Leone, Tamil Nadu Shied Away

CHENNAI: Indian men definitely have a spicy appetite — Sunny Leone topped Google trends for the most searched person in 2014, but (thankfully?) Tamil Nadu has contributed little to this frenzy, an analysis reveals.

Though our Prime Minister’s party won a landslide mandate in the elections, he was only the second-most popular member on the nation’s Internet after the pornstar. However, Tamilians were more interested in the PM (at least on Google search) than they were in her, analysis reveals.

The calculations are made based on Search Volume Index (SVI). Take for instance, the term Flipkart (the second most-searched term in the country, after IRCTC — yes, we Indians love travelling).

SVI is the comparison between number of searches for, say, ‘Flipkart’ and the number of searches for all other terms, on a scale of 0-100. SVI in Tamil Nadu for ‘Sunny Leone’ was 30, while for Modi, it was higher at 32. A regional break-up reveals that we had people searching for Leone throughout the length and breadth of the State — in Chennai (maximum), Vellore, Coimbatore, Thanjavur and Tirunelveli, among others.

Narendra Modi was most searched for in the State from Vellore, followed by Coimbatore and Chennai.

Surprisingly, in the State, ‘Flipkart’ was most searched for from Tirupur, followed by Erode, Vellore, and Salem, while Chennai was ninth. Snapdeal too, followed a similar pattern — it was searched most in Tirupur, followed by Erode and Salem. That entire belt, it seems, is now gearing up for tech-savvy purchasing.

Moto G, the most searched-for tech device in India, was most searched for in the State from Chennai, Coimbatore and Vellore.
