CHENNAI: Senior IAS officer Shanthini Kapoor, who died in a road accident in Krishnagiri on Wednesday, was handpicked by the State government to head the key department which is implementing its welfare schemes.She took charge as the Principal Secretary in the Special Programme Implementation Department on November 6, 2012.
“She was a very cordial person and talked gently to her subordinates. When we heard the news, I thought some of her family members were involved in the accident. But it was a complete shock when I came to know that she is no more,” said an IAS officer and collegue of Shanthini. He added that Shanthini was on leave for last few days and was on a personal trip when the accident took place.
Shanthini got selected for Indian Adminstrative Service in 1983, the same year she passed out of the Womens Christian College after completing Post Graduation in English literature.
She joined the service 1985 as an assistant Collector in 1985 and in the next 19 years she went on to serve in most of the departments of the State. She served as Collector of Chennai from June 1, 1995 to May 1, 1997.
She was married to Peter Raj Kapoor, executive director of Luxury Hues Consulting and managing director of Financial Hues Pvt Ltd.
