TWAD to Carry Out Study on Integrated Water Work at Rs 50L

COIMBATORE:The civic body has decided to handover Rs 50 lakh to the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board for carrying out a study on implementing the integrated drinking water scheme at extended areas of the city limits.

According to sources, the civic body already paid Rs 2 lakh to the Executive Engineer, Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD) (Project Implementation), to carry out a study on implementing integrated drinking water scheme for extended areas. Apart from the Rs 2 lakh advance, the civic body has promised to give one percent of the total project cost to the board for preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR).

As of now, the board has suggested to set up two new tunnels to supply Pillur dam water. One tunnel will be set up at 200 meter distance from the existing Periyakombai tunnel, and the another one will be set up at 50 meter distance from the existing Kattan Hills tunnels.

While the Periyakombai hills carry untreated water from Pillur dam and Kattan hills will carry treated water from the proposed Velliyangadu treatment plant. More than 60 wards in the city is fed with Pillur water. “Apart from laying a 980 metre-long pipeline at the tunnel, we are planning to setup water treatment plant at Velliangadu and construction of overhead tanks at Pannimadai. We are carrying out field inspection for this,” said TWAD source.

In a letter to City Corporation Commissioner K Vijayakarthikeyan, executive engineer of TWAD Project implementation has asked him to hand over Rs 50 lakh to them for carrying out field study, drawing and preparing estimation for the project, and the city corporation council meet held on Monday gave approval to hand over Rs 50 lakhs to the board.
