CHENNAI: Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi(TVK) president Panruti Velmurugan has demanded the State government increase the age limit for TNPSC Group-I exam to 45 years.

In a statement here, Velmurugan said, "Students from rural areas, who are socially and economically weak, are preparing for the TNPSC exams amid lot of troubles and poverty. But,the TNPSC has set 35 as the age limit for BC, MBC and SC/ST candidates and 30 as the age limit for candidates from the general category."

He further said, "From 2001 to 2015, TNPSC has conducted Group-I exams only seven times. Many candidates crossed the age limit after giving two or three attempts in the exams. Due to the age factor, about 2 lakh candidates from rural areas and from BC, MBC and SC categories get affected."

He pointed out that in States like Gujarat, Haryana, West Bengal and Tripura, age limit for Public Service Exams is 45.

Taking into account all these factors, the State government should consider increasing the age limit to 45. This would help many candidates with their livelihood,he said.
